Employee Accident Insurance Law
Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Compulsory Insurance of Employee from Accidents upon Performance of Labour (Official) Duties by Them”
Requires employers to insure their civil liability for harm to the life and health of employees injured at work. The premium depends on the occupational risk class of the employer's activity; the law does not cover state institutions.
What matters for an oil & gas company
- Every employer (other than state institutions) must conclude a compulsory accident insurance contract for its employees; voluntary insurance does not replace it.
- The insured risk is the employer's civil liability for harm to an employee's life or health during work duties.
- Premiums depend on the occupational risk class of the employer's economic activity, with correction coefficients.
- Long-term payments to injured workers or persons entitled to compensation can be made through annuity contracts with life insurers.
- Changes adopted by Law No. 259-VIII of 16 January 2026 take effect on 1 January 2027.
