Greenhouse gases from fuel combustion
CO₂, CH₄ and N₂O emissions and their CO₂ equivalent from burning liquid or gaseous fuel in boilers, furnaces, oil heaters and gas turbines: fuel mass × net calorific value × emission factor × oxidation factor.
E = B · NCVCO₂ = E · EF · OFCH₄ = E · EF_CH₄; N₂O = E · EF_N₂OCO₂e = CO₂ + GWP_CH₄ · CH₄ + GWP_N₂O · N₂OMethod and defaults follow the methodologies for greenhouse gas emissions from boilers of power plants and boiler houses and from oil and gas production (Order No. 9; oil and gas production methodology, paras 12, 15–21): Table 1 (calorific values and CO₂ factors) and Table 2 (CH₄ and N₂O by installation) repeat IPCC 2006 (vol. 2, Tables 1.2, 1.4 and 2.6). Crude oil and LPG are not in Table 2, so their CH₄ and N₂O factors are from IPCC 2006 Table 2.2. Installations under the quota system use their own calorific value and carbon content from laboratory analyses under their monitoring plan. For gases metered by volume the CO₂ factor is calculated from the gas composition with the electronic tool of the carbon trading system operator.

Inputs
You can change a field's unit: the value is converted to the formula's units automatically.
For the period, from meters or the fuel balance. Gas metered by volume: B = V · ρ at 20 °C, or use the flare calculator with the gas composition and OF = 1.
From laboratory analyses; defaults (as in IPCC 2006): diesel 43.0, fuel oil 40.4, crude oil 42.3, LPG 47.3, natural gas 48.0 GJ/t.
Defaults: diesel 74.1, fuel oil 77.4, crude oil 73.3, LPG 63.1, natural gas 56.1 t CO₂/TJ.
1 for combustion to produce heat and power, 0.995 for flaring (Methodology No. 9).
Table 2 of the boiler methodology: gas boilers 1, gas turbines > 3 MW 4, diesel boilers 0.9, fuel oil boilers 0.8 kg/TJ.
Same table: gas boilers 1, gas turbines 1, diesel boilers 0.4, fuel oil boilers 0.3 kg/TJ.
IPCC AR5: 28, the default (national inventory under the Paris Agreement); AR4: 25; AR6 (fossil methane): 29.8.
AR5: 265; AR4: 298; AR6: 273.

Converts CO₂, CH₄, N₂O and SF₆ emissions to tonnes of CO₂ equivalent with 100-year global warming potentials: AR5 by default, AR4 and AR6 values in the presets.
Mass of methane and CO₂ in vented or leaked gas and the CO₂ equivalent, from the gas volume at standard conditions and its composition: blowdowns, process losses, emergency releases.
Results are engineering estimates from standard formulas; for design decisions check them against the codes, project documents and specialists' calculations. The formulas carried over from the original set are unchanged, and their errors are described in the notes.
