CO₂ equivalent of greenhouse gas emissions
Converts CO₂, CH₄, N₂O and SF₆ emissions to tonnes of CO₂ equivalent with 100-year global warming potentials: AR5 by default, AR4 and AR6 values in the presets.
CO₂e = CO₂ + GWP_CH₄ · CH₄ + GWP_N₂O · N₂O + GWP_SF₆ · SF₆A tonne of CO₂ equivalent is the mass of a gas with the global warming potential of one tonne of CO₂ (Environmental Code Art. 282(3)). The potentials are set by the authorized body under the international treaties; the national inventory under the Paris Agreement uses AR5 values (decision 18/CMA.1). Check the values required in reports of installations under the quota system with the authorized body and the carbon trading system operator.

Inputs
You can change a field's unit: the value is converted to the formula's units automatically.
Leaks from SF₆-insulated switchgear; easier to enter in kg — pick the unit.
IPCC AR5: 28, the default (national inventory under the Paris Agreement); AR4: 25; AR6 (fossil methane): 29.8.
AR5: 265; AR4: 298; AR6: 273.
AR5: 23,500; AR4: 22,800; AR6: 25,200.

CO₂, CH₄ and N₂O emissions and their CO₂ equivalent from burning liquid or gaseous fuel in boilers, furnaces, oil heaters and gas turbines: fuel mass × net calorific value × emission factor × oxidation factor.
Mass of methane and CO₂ in vented or leaked gas and the CO₂ equivalent, from the gas volume at standard conditions and its composition: blowdowns, process losses, emergency releases.
Results are engineering estimates from standard formulas; for design decisions check them against the codes, project documents and specialists' calculations. The formulas carried over from the original set are unchanged, and their errors are described in the notes.
