KazPetroDrilling is an independent Kazakhstan drilling group headquartered in Aktau that provides well drilling, workover and abandonment, hydraulic fracturing and well cementing through its subsidiaries. The group includes Burgylau, KazMunayGas-Burenie, KazTechMunayServis and MunaiFieldService, as well as equipment manufacturing, pipe repair and transport companies. It operates from Aktau, Atyrau and Zhanaozen.

Research and design institute of the KazMunayGas group, with its head office in Astana and two branches — KazNIPImunaygas in Aktau and the Atyrau branch; the sole participant of the LLP is NC KazMunayGas JSC. The legal entity was created on 12 March 2014 as the KazMunayGas Research Institute of Production and Drilling Technologies LLP — according to the company, on the basis of the Kazakh Institute of Oil and Gas JSC (KING) and its subsidiary institutes — and was renamed KMG Engineering on 4 May 2019; KING itself did not become part of the institute and has been a separate private company since 2015.

The branches prepare exploration work projects, reserves estimates, field development projects, technical designs for well construction, working designs of field facilities and environmental documentation; according to the company, they also run laboratory centres (core, PVT, oilfield chemistry, drilling fluids).
The institute works almost exclusively for KMG group companies and their joint ventures; the private NIPI Kaspiymunaigaz JSC in Atyrau is a separate organisation and not part of the institute.

Private multi-sector design institute, part of the private KPSP group: its legal address is in Karaganda, while its head office, according to the company, is in Astana, with production offices in Karaganda, Atyrau and Aksai. According to the company, the institute has worked since 1959 and has 200 engineers (the present legal entity, judging by its business identification number, was registered in 2005); oil, gas and petrochemicals became one of its main lines in the 2020s, alongside mining and metallurgy, power and infrastructure.

According to Technip Energies, in 2019 the institute set up the TKJV joint venture with it, which signed a frame agreement with NCOC (announced in July 2021) and a five-year engineering services agreement with Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (June 2024).

Private design institute in Atyrau, wholly owned by the Kazakh Institute of Oil and Gas JSC (KING) and part of its private group; its average headcount in 2025 was 191 (filings in the state depository of financial statements). According to the institute, it traces its history to the Embaneftproekt design unit (1940) and the Giprokazneft and KazNIPIneft institutes; in 2001 the Kaspiymunaigaz state institute was converted into an open joint-stock company by a Government resolution, in 2002 its shares were transferred to KING, and in 2015, together with KING, it passed from the KazMunayGas group into private ownership.
