Uzen is the oldest of the large Mangystau fields and the backbone of Ozenmunaygas, a wholly owned subsidiary of KazMunayGas. The first gas came in 1960 and oil in 1961. More than 400 million tonnes have been produced over its life, the remaining recoverable reserves exceed 120 million tonnes, and the company plans to raise annual output from 5 to 5.9 million tonnes.

Infrastructure
The field is produced with waterflood pressure support; the crude is waxy and has to be kept warm in transport. It goes into the KazTransOil system — to Aktau and on to export, or to the domestic refineries.
