Great Wall Drilling Company (GWDC), the international land-drilling arm of China National Petroleum Corporation, has drilled in Kazakhstan since 1999 through Sino-Kazakh Great Wall Drilling LLP, a joint venture with CNPC-Aktobemunaigas headquartered in Aktobe. The JV provides contract drilling, workover, cementing and directional drilling, mainly in the Zhanazhol field area of Aktobe region.

It drills production and exploration wells and provides drilling fluid services, cementing, coring, well completion and directional drilling with a fleet of about ten owned rigs of 100–590 t capacity. It is part of the KazPetroDrilling group rather than a subsidiary of national company KazMunayGas.
